brilliant days music story
brilliant days episode 1 - verse
- jun and felix meet in the morning to work on the song
- felix asks jun if something is bothering him, and says he wants to help jun work out his feelings
- bgm changes to brilliant days demo1 which is so beautiful as to be distracting felix i cant read while ur singing like this. it's acoustic with felix singing the melody without lyrics ("lalala" etc. notably, in this and the subsequent no-lyric demos, you can still hear felix starting to form words as he sings... tho from a doylist lens it's probably because arthur was used to singing the final ver so the shape of the words slipped in lol. watsonian felix crafting the lyrics as he sings is cuter tho)
- jun says he's been really happy that faniri has been very united since going pro. when they joined the label, the other bands (in the label?) all congratulated them, and faniri's fans shouted "ganbatte!!" when they announced it at their last live
- but he heard something from tomoru last night that made him doubt whether this was really the right path for them
brilliant days episode 2 - bridge
- faniri at the practice studio look over comments they've received online; tomoru collected them on mashu's request
- in summary, not all of their fans are pleased about them going pro
- they discuss the kind of things people don't like about bands going pro; like jun saying there are a lot of bands he stopped listening to after they went pro, and tomoru agreed saying they often transition to pop or otherwise not their original genre. daimon adds on that joining a big company does mean more publicity, but you can't do as much of what you want to do. love this commentary its so real of them
- koharu says they're not going to throw away their precious worldview to make music that sells, and daimon says "until we lose the significance of doing it with the 5 of us... that's probably what fans fear the most." koharu's like well yeah then what's anyone worried about (implying he doesn't think they'll ever lose the meaning of faniri)
- felix caps it off saying that for now they'll just keeping making the music they believe in without losing the faniri-ness that their underlings love. then he presents the demo of the new song that he and jun worked on (bgm changes to brilliant days demo2; it's a beta version of the instrumentals with felix "lalala" over it.)
- the others are impressed; daimon says this should put their underlings at ease (because of its very thoroughly gothic metal arrangement)
- felix says the theme is faniri's starting shot in a revolution to make their music known to the world
- felix praises jun for understanding the theme so well and asks that he take point during the arrangement process
- koharu is like hell yea!! and jun goes h-hai...! :3
brilliant days episode 3 - chorus
- mashu calls them all to dreadnote to tell them some things: firstly, that their demo received a very high evaluation from the label, so they'd like to make it faniri's debut release. secondly, a company liked it so much that they'd like to use it for a commercial
- they're all happy for .1 seconds before mashu is like well hold on the third thing is that the company is requesting that it be a ballad instead
- dai/koha/tomo are like... that's not... great.... and jun actually speaks up rather fervently in defense of the original arrangement, about how it expresses the theme of determination and etc... he loses his nerve towards the end of his speech lol
- mashu says the label negotiated many times, and almost considered refusing bc of this, but he thinks it's ultimately a good opportunity to take advantage of for their debut
- they all struggle over this: jun shuts up and hopes the others put up a more professional defense than he did, koharu stays firm in rejecting the proposal bc they literally just talked about protecting their foundation, daimon affirms that the happiness of their fans are their top priority, but this is work now...
- song stories are unvoiced but have lil voice clips at the start of each line and felix's just said "atama ga itai ne" (lit. "my head hurts" 😭😭 tho idiomatically it means "racking one's brains; troubling over something") he says this type of problem is likely going to keep coming up in the future, so they should think carefully about which choice they should make
- mashu reminds them that their activities as a band are now a business, not a hobby
- demo3 doesn't play in the story but it is the ballad arrangement
- fade to live house, this is during a live
- jun is just like ".....:(" and the others whisper to each other about how having to rearrange the song must be bothering jun so much that he's been very quiet and spacey this live. apparently one of the company's higher ups is also in the audience
- felix tells their fans that they have a new song to show off
brilliant days episode 4 - ending
- suddenly ZACK starts a huge outburst and there's this hilarious moment of tomo/dai/koha all on screen and the dialogue just says "!?!?!?!?"
- he goes on this tirade like yall think we're gonna change!?? GUESS AGAIN!!!!! so basically he hypes up the original arrangement and felix excitedly goes along with it
- so they end up doing the og and the other members are like welp guess it's for the best
- cut to dressing room and jun is like IM SO SOSOSOSOSOSOSOSO SORRY ILL DO ANYTHING TO APOLOGIZE
- mashu comes in with a producer from the commercial company and jun straight up faints 😭😭😭😭😭😭 koharu is like "oop there he goes" with a little collapsing sfx
- the producer praises them and says that after hearing it in person, the original arrangement is obviously the better choice
- he's also really impressed by their makeup; the commercial itself is for makeup so he wants to ask them to model it too. felix says he's honored to be offered and they'll consider it
- daimon's like well nice that it all worked out. hey jun you can wake up now
- koharu and tomoru wonder if telling jun that he'll model in the commercial will just make him faint again from shock
- felix fufus and hopes that future surprises will all be good ones
