i keep a nightly diary on my phone, but since i write those very quickly and half-asleep, i think it'd be nice to also have a spot on my site for sharing longer explorations of recent events.

yesterday i tagged along on a roadtrip my sister was taking to visit an exhibition, not because i was interested in it but because i just wanted to get out of the house. there's a novelty in going somewhere 3 hours away, even though everything looks pretty much the same (exception: the clouds have unique textures in every place. the ones here were painting-like, with some parts feathery and wind-dashed and others perfectly puffy in just the right places).

we had to stand in line to gain entry to the exhibition, and there was a couple ahead of us who grabbed my attention such that i pulled out my sketchbook to discreetly draw and take notes on their outfits. today i resketched them digitally so i could color them.

the taller one had a color palette right from my own wardrobe! their skirt was really cool too; i wonder where one can buy things like that. the shorter one's dress had an intricate black lineart pattern that i declined to replicate.

i only saw them from the front briefly during a turn in the queue. (i forgot the taller one's sunglasses here... they were stylish)

99% of the time i draw characters i know and like, so it was refreshing to try to capture the likeness of two random real people from memory. i'm surprised these distinct impressions came through despite me drawing similar-faced anime boys so often lol.

when we got close to the exhibit, the shorter one started taking pictures, and i saw the taller one rest their chin on the other's hair for a moment. their height difference was like fate. it was cute.
